    Current Status:
    • All components of this site have been deployed using Terraform IaC as of 7/29/2023 and the visit counter was reset to zero. The code is managed on GitHub with an Actions workflow to push the updates from the code repository to the S3 bucket and invalidate the CloudFront distribution when changes are detected. This site uses AWS S3 static webhosting with CloudFront as a CDN only allowing HTTPS and blocking S3 direct access. Route53 handles the DNS work. In the background, the visitor counter is powered by JavaScript and it engages with APIGateway. The APIGateway triggers a Lambda function written in Python which updates the number of visitors in a DynamoDB table and returns the new value.

DevOps Pipeline - Fellowship with Booz Allen Hamilton
    Completed March 2023

    Goals

    • Research, develop, and deploy a Jenkins pipeline
    • Develop a simple application to deploy using the pipeline
    • Fully automate environment deployment, build actions, and push to production
    • Utilize platforms and tools like AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, Helm, SonarQube, Snyk, Selenium
    • Develop as part of a SCRUM team and gain experience in the SAFE method of software development
    Completed:
    • With a team of 2 DevOps over 11 weeks, we researched and deployed all the tools listed above to provide a pipeline to deploy a NodeJS game application. We accomplished the primary objectives set by the team leads within the first 3-weeks and chose to jump into more complex solutions. Between week 4 and 10, we continued to research and further implement more advanced tools like Terraform, Helm, SonarQube, Snyk, and Selenium. While staying mostly in the free-tier of AWS, we were able to create the pipeline in Jenkins on an EC2 instance, host a kubernetes cluster with EKS, and run multiple static and dynamic code scans and inspections. The end result was deploying a functioning application to a container registry and hosting it with web access. The pipeline provided code inspection insight on vulnerabilities and functionality which enhances the development process and saves time for the developer. Finally, the pipeline and resulting application were demonstrated to a wide audience of Booz Allen employees to highlight what can be accomplished through the Hiring Our Heroes fellowship program.
